'Presents, transcribes and analyses 11 documents (most previously unpublished), 1570-1586, on the purchase by Felipe II (and his agents) of Venetian pigments from Titian and his son Orazio. Connects the purchase of pigments with various commissions on the part of the Spanish court, including mural paintings by Federico Zuccari in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, S. Lorenzo, Patio de los Evangelistas. Comments on the reputation for high quality of the Venetian pigments. Discusses the implications of the documents on our knowledge of Orazio's responsabilities in the workshop, which included making copies of work by his father' (BHA).
