The Print Collection of Philip II at the Escorial.
'Surveys the formation and contents of the print collections amassed mainly from the mid-1560s to the mid-1570s. Argues that the Escorial librarian Benito Arias Montano was the principal individual responsible for the selection of the nearly 7000 prints in the collection. He was not, however, necessarily responsible for the arrangement of the prints in albums grouped by subject. Appendix provides a catalogue of print albums in the Escorial library' (BHA).
