De Leuvense theologen en de eerste gedrukte bijbels in de volkstaal (1522-1533). Een feitelijk gedoogbeleid?

Against Erasmus' and Luther's plea for the lay bible, Jacobus Latomus in 1525 reluctantly acknowledged the ligitimacy of bible translations in the vernacular as long as they would reflect clearly the religious doctrine. Johannes Driedo in 1533 opposed this opinion, only the Latin, Greek and Hebrew languages were sacred enough to reflect the words of the Scripture. Martin Luther: 244, 248-51, 258, 260-68, 272.
