To the victors goes the hagiography: The Cistercian frescoes at San Galgano and the Vitae Galgani.

Galganus (†1181), simple ermite, canonisé en 1185, fut renvendiqué à la fois par les Ermites de St. Augustin et par les Cisterciens. Parmi les 6 Vitae préservées il y a dans Firenze, Bibl. Medicea Laurenziana le Ms. Plut. 90 sup. 48, ff. 15v-212 d'un augustin anonyme du couvent S. Spirito de Florence, écrit entre 1326-1342. Rudolf Arbesmann l'a étudié, cf. le no. 149. Les reliques de Saint Galgan reposent dans l'abbaye cistercienne S. Galgano à Montesiepo près de Sienne, fondée en 1201 comme le premier monastère OCist dans la Toscane.
