Raphael's Altar-Piece Patrons in Città di Castello.

'Raphael painted for Andrea Baronci, the oldest of his patrons, his first altar-piece commission, in S. Agostino, Città di Castello (December 1500). Baronci commissioned another altar-piece by Evangelista di Pian di Meleto, also for his chapel of St. Nicholas in S. Agostino. The now dismembered and fragmentary Coronation of St. Nicholas of Tolentino survive in Naples (Museo Naz. di Capodimonte), Paris (Musée du Louvre) fig. 2-3. A copy after Raphael's Coronation of St. Nicholas, by Ermenegildo Costantini, 1791, now in the Pinacoteca comunale, Città di Castello (fig. 4) and a compositional study for the Coronation by Raphael in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (fig. 5)': 268-70. The will of Domenico Gavari: actum in ecclesia S. Augustini in Civitate Castelli, 13.05.1511: 278.
