Dosso Dossi, Garofalo and the Costabili Polyptych, Imaging Spiritual Authority.

Antonio Costabili (ca. 1450-1527) commissiones July 11, 1513 Dosso (ca. 1486-1542) and Benvenuto Tisi, called Garofalo (ca. 1476-1559) to paint a polyptych for the high altar of the church of S. Andrea in Ferrara (now in ruins), at that tie occupied by the Eremitani friars of the Augustinian Order (p. 252). The polyptych, 9,6 x 5,8 m., is now in the Pinacoteca Nazionale, Ferrara. Dosso's Virgin and Child with saints George and Michael Angel (Galleria Estense, Modena) of about 1519 has a provenance from S.
