Dosso Dossi, Benvenuto da Garofalo, and the Costabili polyptych in Ferrara.

'Publishes results of archival research casting light on Dosso's family and origins, and on the date of the polyptych commissioned by Antonio Costabili for the S. Andrea, Ferrara (now Ferrara, Pinacoteca nazionale), hitherto considered a mature work of Dosso, ca. 1530... establishes that the polyptych was executed quickly between the summer 1513 and early 1514, on the basis of records of payment to Dosso and Garifalo dated July-Nov. 1513, together with documents placingDosso at the Estense court by spring 1514. Analyses the payments, notes that the coincidence excludes a role for Girolamo da Carpi, and points out that the scholarship concerning the polyptich and Dosso's artistic development will now require revision' (BHA).
